Hi,

I am due to sit my 2392/1 practicals soon and during the course of my revision have come up with some un-answerable questions.

2392:
1. Are we required to perform live Zs checks in addition to working out Zs for each circuit?

2391:
1. what percentage Inspections should be performed on the exam (I know its 10% in real life unless a discrepancy is found?)
2. what is the correct procedure for testing the 3 phase elements (this was not covered in any detail on my course)
3. is the phase rotation test required to be done?

Also if anyone can provide me with the makeup of the individual boards within each exam, I would be most grateful!

Cheers

2391 can't help you 2392 you will be asked to do Live tests on Ze, and PSSC/PEFC to determine your entered value for PFC on the cert you will be asked to fill out, you will be expected to test Zs using a plug top arrangement in the meter and to demonstrate how to calculate it for those circuits that a Live Zs test cannot be performed due to the course organisers interpretation on the Electricity at work regulations.

For our 2391 practical, we only carry out a Zs meaurement with the plug-in BS1363 lead.

You will, as Steve has already mentioned, be expected to carry out a Ze and PFC measurement on the 3-phase board only.

For what it's worth, whip all of the covers off, it'll literally take you 5 minutes.

Do a R1+R2 test on each line conductor on the supply terminals of the motor starter, confirm continuity of protective conductor to the 3-phase motor socket.

The phase rotation test should be carried out.

There are 2 Distribution boards-a 3-phase board and a single phase board.

The single phase board is fed from the 3-phase board as a distribution circuit (remember 5 seconds disconnection time).

Also, your calculated R1+R2 for the distribution circuit, plus your measured Ze will also be the Zs or Zdb at the small board.

You'll have 2 lighting circuits, a fused connection unit wired in MICC and a ring final with inbuilt resistances to simulate real world readings.

Take your time, be calm and BE SAFE the vast majority of our practical test failures are due to a safety concern!

Get safe isolation procedures in your head for total recall, check here: http://www.esc.org.uk/pdfs/business-and-community/electrical-industry/BPG2_09.pdf

Good luck and good reading of Guidance Note 3 !!!

What about the IR testing?on the three phase do they want you to test each individual line to neutral / earth separately. Or with L & N connected together to E?
I've never tested 3 phase so I'm extremely nervous!!

The way the rig is set up, it's easier to do individual lines for IR.

Don't be nervous, remember, if you wish, you can open GN 3 up on a desk and follow the sequences!

I know I've already said this but BE SAFE if you need a bit of extra time, you'll get it, stay calm.

You get an official 2.5 hours on the PIR board but if you're working safely and running slightly over, you should still be ok.

The examiner might ask you why you're doing a certain test/sequence, maybe even as a slight hint/warning!

Thanks IQ.
If I get any more questions I'll post them on here as I have a few. Sorry to annoy you I am just really nervous and than two weeks later I got my Elecsa assessment.

It's what this place is for, post away!

Testing will be fresh in your mind for your Elecsa assessment!

Oh and when carrying out r1+r2 test do we do the test on each separate line in a circuit?

If it's a distribution board we fill out two schedule of tests n inspections as per usual?

We always advise filling in a value for each line conductor, even though you've proved continuity on the first.

You will indeed have 1 PIR, 1 schedule of inspections and 2 shedule of test results.
