Does this mean that soon we'll be seeing job adverts saying "must have 2394, 2395, 2396" with no mention of 2391..
Will all of us with 2391 end up being forced into taking the updated versions of the course?
I would be very surprised if this did happen.
If you have 2391, then this equates to having both the 2349 and 2395.
2396 is the new one, and this may well be the extra that will be asked for in time. But speaking with my local C&G EV the other day, he informs me that anyone who is currently working as an Electrician, and can navigate the regs and interpret the tables without too much trouble whether they have the 2382 or not, and is competent at maths will have no great problems with the course. For my sins i am currently writing the C&G 2396 course
You will remain a lot more employable if you have 2391 because this qual covers both Initial Verification and Periodics. The current GN3 is still the material to be used for all these courses until a new one is issued to align with the updated regs.
Back to your statement, i think there will be occasion when we may see jobs advertised asking for 2391, but saying things like as a minimum you must have either 2394 or 2395, depending on the type of testing the advertised job involves.
2396 is a design qualification, and in most cases for electricians out on the tools day in day out, who are working by standardisation using "off the shelf" products from the local wholesaler will not need this qual.
