hello all, as i understand it this is a level 2 qualification; does anyone know how the contents of this course compares to the inspection and testing component of level 3 2330? after i finish level 3 2330, could i skip 2392 and go straight for 2391?

The exams you have mentioned are due to finish soon. This summer for 2391 and the end of the year for 2392 so you need to be quick and yes you could skip the 2392 and go straight to 2391 but this exam has a high failure rate. So some people do the L2 first to get an intro into T&I

The main basic differences between the two, apart from the level and type of exam you sit is 2392 (on-line, closed book) is fundimental T&I and certs for new single phase installation and the 2391 (written, closed book) is T&I and certs for new 3 phase installation plus period inspection of both 1 & 3 phase installations

The new exams will be
2394 - L3 Award in the initial verification and certification of electrical installations,
2395 - L3 Award in the periodic inspection testing and certification of electrical installations
and 2396 - L4 Award in the design and verification of electrical installations

This link should take you to the course information

On 2392 at local college starts in a few weeks we were told we would be doing the newer exan they were to start on 1st of jan. City+guilds put start date back to later in the year lots of luck with the exam which ever you do.Our local college has pass rate of only 45% for 2391 one tutor said .

Does this mean that soon we'll be seeing job adverts saying "must have 2394, 2395, 2396" with no mention of 2391..
Will all of us with 2391 end up being forced into taking the updated versions of the course?

2391-10 becomes the 2395 and no one has stated that you have to upgrade it is the same level of qualification. But I think the 2392 (level 2) people will have to upgrade to the 2394 (level 3)

The designers level 3 course 2391-20 becomes the 2396 and is a level 4 so I guess it is up to you if you want to upgrade

I would be very surprised if this did happen.
If you have 2391, then this equates to having both the 2349 and 2395.
2396 is the new one, and this may well be the extra that will be asked for in time. But speaking with my local C&G EV the other day, he informs me that anyone who is currently working as an Electrician, and can navigate the regs and interpret the tables without too much trouble whether they have the 2382 or not, and is competent at maths will have no great problems with the course. For my sins i am currently writing the C&G 2396 course

You will remain a lot more employable if you have 2391 because this qual covers both Initial Verification and Periodics. The current GN3 is still the material to be used for all these courses until a new one is issued to align with the updated regs.

Back to your statement, i think there will be occasion when we may see jobs advertised asking for 2391, but saying things like as a minimum you must have either 2394 or 2395, depending on the type of testing the advertised job involves.

2396 is a design qualification, and in most cases for electricians out on the tools day in day out, who are working by standardisation using "off the shelf" products from the local wholesaler will not need this qual.

Cheers.........Howard

SirKit Breaker you must have a good EV if he is providing infor for 2396, most are saying either nothing or its (the detail) is not ready yet
