I did the 2394/5 last year and found reading the chief examiners reports from the city & guilds website very helpfull just go to city & guilds and search 2394 or 2395 and look in the additional documents section.

currently revising earth electrodes like mad too as i have never had practical experience with them any tips?

Just revise the methods described in GN3. A subject is always harder if you have no hands on experience of it, but the methods and different types of tester are not too hard to get with a bit of revision.

Here have 30 points for both written 2394/2395 - Memorise learn and understand th earth fault loop path on all 3 common types of earth systems. That's is TNC TNCS and TT. Start to draw them out on scrap bits of paper Fully labled diagrams with each relevant point marked up clearly.- Just sit blank paper and draw the path for any one of the above......check it with a book copy afterwards and correct any mistakes. Do this for each of the three systems. 15 points in each test if the question comes up...which I would say is 8 times out of 10.
Next 15 points (Or more if your lucky with the questions)-
Rehearse in your head how you would perform each test -
Normally starting off with safe isolation (UNLESS the question tells you to disregard it or to assume already isolated....read the questions carefully)
Anyway rehears the lot in your mind and put it on paper in bullet point fashion
: Select insulation resistance tester
: Check tester and leads for damage and that it is in calibration
: Check batteries
: select appropriate test range
: null out test leads
And so on step by step until you are at seek permission to re-energise and finally re-energise.
A common thing people panic with on the earth fault path is say they ask you to show the earth fault path for a cooker ect......draw exactly the same diagram as you would always do and where you normally have the label saying "load" just change it to cooker ect ect ect.
As said GN3 is your reading companion for the next couple of months. Read it, Understand it Then read it again.
Terminology - Ohms, Mega Omhs Milli seconds ect ect. State them clearly.
If you read the examiners reports mentioned above you will note the amount of times candidates loose marks for wrong terminology, and simply not reading the question.
It is a good worthwhile qualification and will give you a good grounding for the future.
No real point in us going over the 17th exam as the answers are ALL in the book. Learn how to read it and how to quickly find what you are looking for. Should be easy.
