hi guys

im 27 and just started working alongside an electrician, as I'm looking for a change of career. I've been looking into all the different routes i can take to work towards becoming a qualified electrician. now i know this is no easy task and will take money and devotion from myself. is the 2357 course and am2 exam what i need to become qualified obviously the nvq also. the nvq, can i do this my self taking photos, descriptions etc or do i need to go through some one? I've seen you can do an online nvq which involves uploading photos etc, but i spoke to able skills today and they do it differently. I'm gonna attend a collage evening course but want to make sure i do the correct courses and don't waste my time and money.

thanks all

Yeah your right do the 2357 and AM2 followed by your NVQ3.
Provided you have somebody to sign your work off for you during your NVQ i.e the guy your working with then your good to go !!
Dont get caught up in the short courses mate just do the city guilds at college and you will be glad you did in the long run.

thanks mate, and i totally agree. there is far to much information involved to remember in 7 weeks. the 2357 is ÂŁ5400 in collage which isn't any cheaper that the quick courses, however at least ill be given the time to study.
when i called able skills they told me i had to do the level 2 and 3 2365, then the 2357 and am2.

Im not sure what all the numbers are now TBH as it was 2330 when i qualified but one thing i do know is that by doing the college route will be much more beneficial to you.

On site training and collage course is as good as any training and basically is an apprenticeship. you may have been lucky enough to get into the trade you wanted at a young age but theres a lot of people not that fortunate.

yes paul, I'm not here to make enemies, throw insults out etc. I'm here to gain knowledge and advice from the more experienced members here. i do not take kindly to insults etc as I'm sure you don't either.

thanks

The offensive member is taking a little break for now. Direct abuse to a new member that is clearly trying to become an Electrician and asking for advice is not on. Please continue asking questions on this/your thread and hope we can help.

Need to follow the rules on the trainee section Daniel, please click the link below and follow the instructions. Cant see any reason why you would be refused, even at your stage. Your user tittle will change from "member" to "trainee" and people go a bit easier on you (should do).

Haha!. It's a lot friendlier in the Trainee Section of the Forum.
You don't get any grief there.

Dont get any grief in here neither long as people hit the report button lol.

It was not just this thread that he got banned for posting on so dont feel bad about it, I wont. Direct insults to new members that are looking into or just starting out in our trade will not be dealt with softly. Thank you to the members that stuck up for Daniel and gave/giving him advice, cheers lads
