3 phase appliance inlet

Has anyone fitted a 3 phase appliance inlet to a generator. I have been asked to do this and I am not sure how I should connect it inside the generator. I have done 3 phase for commercial applications before but not with a generator. Any help greatley appreciated.

I got to ask....why would you need to put a appliance inlet on a geney??? power usually comes out of the geney, not in....

True i asked the same question. The answer i got was that the oher end i.e. cable came fitted with a female adaptor. It is for the military so not many questions asked. I guess they are going to use it as an outlet. I did suggest swapping the cable end. However, i will still need to put an outlet/inlet on and I have never done this before either.

I got to be honest, that is dodgy as hell. When the geney's running those pins will be live and exposed until the lead is plugged in, and you shouldn't start a geney under load so live pins galore.

Try to convince them they need a socket and change the female to a male on the lead.


Have you seen the geney yet??? are there any sockets available already or is there direct connect terminals???

It's the overcurrent protection you need to consider, along with any additional RCD protection needed.

No not seen it yet, have to admit i was concerned about the live pins. I will have to say no if they will not change. Thanks for the help.

Socket Outlets of any kind are ALL Female. Plugs are Male.

All this will surely depend on the size of the genny and what type of panel for the output side is like.

Yes...thats why I said he would need a male plug on the end of the lead instead of a female socket.......

Thanks for the posts, decided not to do the work as they kept chaning their mind about what they wanted. Sounded to dodgey and they would not let me change the inlet for an outlet.
