I am a fool to think that this is ridiculous?

I got an offer form a company (better not say which one) dealing with social housing to do periodic inspections for them. They would pay £30 for each house and expect four (!) to be done in a normal working day.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think doing two houses a day is pushing it, is it not? If you do the job properly I can not see how anyone would do four houses a day. Just travel from one place to another would take up and hour or more.

So what do you guys think?

hmm and how much are they charging the client....!! tell them to shove it..!

i admit i whizzed though a PIR today! 5 circuits (2rings 3 radial) new build flat 6 year old never had any alterations ever.. previous test certs to hand from new (although slighty dubious) and in "as new condition"

2 of us bashed it out in 1h 20mins...!

im happy it took just over an hour as i got 2 done that day!! other one again as new bit bigger took 2h 35m again with all previous paperwork and in same condition..!!

on other days a simple 5 circuit box might take 6 hours after you plugged the mess from behind sockets and try to find what circuit does what!!

4 / day , £30 each??!! My girlfriends training to be a maths teacher and when I get home I'll ask her to check my sums, but that doesn't seem to be very profitable?

You have to remember, these people just want the cert. Electrical safety is the last thing on there mind. They just need to be seen to be doing the right thing, leaving your head on the block.
How many times have you seen people take there cars in for an MOT because they want to know its safe ?? Nope just give me the bit of paper mate.

The housing asociation or council are probably paying well for the tests and the contractor is trying to maximise the profit
It would probably be under their heading so they would be ultimately responsible when they oversign the certificates

In the end they will get what they want, someone will do the maths and make 4 into 1
The inspection will no doubt be less thorough than we might imagine it should be ,but the inspection and testing will be made to fit by someone

Drive by PIR o sorry ECIR thank god we have the registration companies looking out to ensure standards are not dropping and yes Yarrick and Darrick are welcome to this as they wont be here 5 years down the line when they want to blame sombody as I have said before I would rather do 1 £100 job than 4 £30 jobs but in this case they want 4 ECIRs for the cost of one chancers and spivs come to mind but then again no doubt they wear their registration badge with pride.

Forgot to addd I had a guy phone me saying I can get you all the work you need and I replied but I dont want you to as all you will do is screw me down on prices no you can make good money I said I used to work for a blue chip high street retailer who likes the word quality for some reason they got a company who made cottage pies and said to them dont make them for anybody else but us and they did then after the first year they said your making too much money we are cutting the margins and the following year they said well done foe saving money we will cut your margins I think you know the rest
