Im going to be doing my very first 3phase mains board tomorrow, has anybody got some tips and advice they could give me?, and also has anybody got some photos of any 3 phase mains boards they have seen or done?

thanks

Think you're right there. Stroboscopic effect is caused by single phase lighting if I remember correctly. Something to do with rpm of machinery and the wagon wheel effect as seen on old films.
i think !!

think its only if the machinery is on the same phase as the lighting.

so your meant to put them on different phases

it doesnt matter if its on a different phase, you will still get it,its to do with the rpm of the machine being at the same frequency as the lighting, you either need fittings on different phases, i am pretty sure it doesnt matter with high frequency fittings, long time since i was at college lol

its the lights that need to be on different phases so they are 120 degrees displaced, so when ones off ones on, stops stroboscopic effect and cutty off fingers effect lol

but pretty sure high frequency does away with it,

Ahh college and night classes in the pub:)

I seem to remember it's the lights at fault and not the machine which could be turning by an elastic band to all intents and purposes.........I'll have to google my next responses as I've forgotten all that techy stuff about frequencies etc !

How could the phase the motor is on make any difference?! And yes, HF fittings are supposed to be a fix, but surely if the tube is flickering at, say 100Hz and the rotating part is rotating at 100 revolutions per second (or a multiple thereof) won't you still get the strobe effect, only more convincingly as it would be less flickery? Lead/lag pairs of tubes get around the strobe effect, as does staggering them over different phases, as has been mentioned.
