40 lumen per watt

I am having one of those moments where i am not grasping the info below
Fit 1 No. light fitting to the utility room that is only capable
of taking a lamp with a luminous efficiency greater than 40 lumens
per circuit watt.

i have read it several times and it is making my head hurt, usually when faced with a dilema like this i take a break and go down the cafe.

why they cant just say what they mean

Seems pretty straightforward to me. I reckon a 18W 2D fitting would satisfy this criteria.

Well metal halide does tend to have a pretty good lumen/watt efficiency (normally ~80 l/w iirc?) so no problem there

But 2D circular bulkhead will probably be fine

no but seriously, are they saying that you cant put a gu10 led fitting in because you could remove the lamp and put a standard gu10 in, not sure the client is going to want a 2d fitting, in the same way the wife didnt want a 6ft twin pop pack in the kitchen, what an awsome light!

That is exactly what your spec is saying, so pretty much rules out GU10, BC, ES, SES etc. 2D is just the first thing that popped into my head as a guaranteed 40 lumens per watt, but your research might throw up some more options.
If you client won't want a 2D fitting, who has issued you the spec ?

EDIT: just thought, self contained LED downlight fitting for a decorative and unobtrusive option.

designer, so i guess a sealed led downlight is acceptable. i just didnt understand what they were driving at.

I guess he was driving at standards of energy efficiency. Seems strange that he would choose only one room though. Is there no mention of this in other parts of the spec ?

not on the part of the tender document that has been released to me, will probably pop up on revised drawing no.9

Probably if it's a new build or extension, as the building regs require a certain percentage (75% ?) of lights to be energy efficient. I did think the standard was 45 lumens per watt minimum though.

You need to be looking at an L1 fitting which is basically the same as GU10 but with a pin in the middle so it only accepts energy saving lamps. They are even avalible as pendants.
