Re the above regulation would an example of this be: the exposed conductive part of an electric towel rail IE the towel rail itself, and a extraneous exposed condutive part say a basin tap, so between these two points the reading shold not exceed 1667 ohms or have I missunderstood

Cheers malcolm I have just been re-reading the NICEIC toolbox guide and the 4 criterion seem to contracdict the common held opinion that any 0ne of the 4 can exclude supp bonding but on reading all 4 must apply befrore supp bonding can be omitted ??

Sorry Pict that lost me. Are you referring to reg 701.415.2 and those 3 conditions?

all 3 of the conditions in 701.415.2 must be met in order to omit supp. bonding in the special location.

Cheers Telectrix having read it again and this thread it is clear now the only condition I think is going to be an issue is the 411.3.1.2,

why ? alll that states is that the incoming services must be bonded to the MET

The one that has always annoyed me about the conditions for excemption for supplementary bonding is:
(i) All final circuits of the location comply with the requirements for automatic disconnection according to Regulation 411.3.2.
Now I would assume that this requires the Zs to be low enough for an overcurrent device to operate within 0.4s for TN, and 0.2s for TT.
However, 411.3.2 allows for the disconnection times to be achieved by use of a 30mA RCD and RCD protection for the circuit is another condition which is required to be met.
I think this condition should either be removed, or if it is to require the Zs are low enough to allow an overcurrent device to operate in the prescribed times, it should be more clear

Maybe Iam overly concerned about nothing although when the rooms were being refurbed there was a lot of bonding conductors in the skip

lol
You never know, this could become an ultimate condition to ommit the bonding

Sorry for that, small things amuse me unfortunately

I think it was the plumbers interpretation of bonding an extraneous conductive part as some conductors were still attached to some copper pipe and a towel rail and wrppaed round the lifting lugs of the skip
