Just had a call off a contractor for my local council offering me work for 5 years (domestic rewires)
So I bit his hand off!! Absolutely chuffed to bits. My dad is an inspector for the council and he had a quiet word in his ear and told him everything that I'd done in the past and he was quite happy with me working there even tho I have to leave half hour early on Monday&Tuesday to go to college

this will now see me right through to the end of college in 2015 with tons of experience under my belt. I heard from a few people that students who come out of college with 2330's and 17th struggle to find work because they don't have the experience, luckily I won't be in that boat.

just thought I'd share this here to give more students hope that descent people do give students a chance.

(although I have worked in the industry for the last 14 months)

God help you, council rewires?? hum, okay good luck, don't forget to buy an extra pair of shoes incase you stand in something whilst avoiding standing on needles, and buy some dog biscuits to try to stop yourself getting bitten by the Dogs haha, JK, well done M8.

Well done Floody, I'm happy for you. Great to hear some good news for us lot.

Council rewires???? Keep an eye on your tools, forget about certain standards as they dont apply in these jobs, keep your mouth shut about the regs and be ready for a lot of chasing out and/or trunking lol. Oh the threads that you are going to come up with in the next few months, I cant wait to be reminded of doing this type of work, you will love it.

Lmfao, I know what it's like I've been told alllllll too many times :p

I'm looking forward with great anticipation. A crap job it may be, but coming out the other side of it ill have a lot more knowledge and a good grounding to become a tidy spark.

Floody you will love it mate and good luck to you. If I got offered the same 5 years of continues work I would take it as well.

Watch your tools, dont mind the smells that you will come across and please tell us the first time when a tenant says "When will the power be back on? Deal or no deal is on in 5 mins!"

Take a flask of coffee, dont always trust what the tenant puts in a cup. Never accept food unless it is in a packet and within its sell by date. Always eye up their 19 year daughter thats still living at home (easy target pmsl  ). And always expect to hear the tenants full life story on your first day before you have your lunch break. In the morning, go for a number 2 before setting off for work (trust me on that one). Dont leave anything on site because it will be on E-bay by the morning.

Have fun Floody and always wash your hands before going to the toilet lol. Only taking the mick, not all are like that but put your guard up mate.

PS just remembered...... Give the plasterer as much work as you can when chasing out. You dont know him but he will deserve it

It's a great opportunity mate and one that gives you a good period of stability and guaranteed income, there are downsides but I'm not going to be the one to pee on your fireworks and I'm sure you're bright enough to figure those out for yourself. Great to hear someone's good news for once.
