Hi all,
I’m a last year apprentice hoping to complete Level 3 5357-03 qualification sometime this year.
I completed the science part about a year ago by passing all my exams and have received certain certificates for this.
The whole experience hasn’t been good at all with weeks of no tutor available or having a non electrically qualified person (bricklayer) who only “taught” us how to record the “off the job” training to ensure we achieve 20%. On top of that I also had 5 different assessors some completely useless and others not very helpful but despite that I managed to complete my portfolio. Unfortunately I was made redundant in October last year, at which point I was waiting for the college (Darlington College) to pull their finger out and find us a new assessor so I can formally submit my portfolio for review after being completed since August 24.
Due to the stage of the apprenticeship I was assured that even if I was unable to get into employment soon I will still be able to continue my learning and finish it.
Luckily I found a new job relatively quick, however the promise of being fast tracked was just another empty promise from the provider and nearly 6 months later I’m still waiting for feedback on my portfolio.
In the meantime the college told my new employer there is £6k outstanding (to my surprise) on my apprenticeship, but after a chat with my manager I asked them not to authorise payment. Long story short previous employer with whom I started my apprenticeship was a very small business so it was gov funded. Current employer is a levy payer however I believe there should have been nothing outstanding or a very minimal amount? Could someone give a bit more info on that as the college will not give a breakdown cost and not engaging with my current employer to try and sort the issue on this. My employer is a multinational business with a whole department dealing with apprenticeships and have a very good knowledge in the field and they said themselves the college stopped engaging once they voiced their disagreement over the outstanding amount.
I have a letter from the apprenticeship service that the apprenticeship was paid in full however they also said it was a discussion for employer/provider level and I should not be involved.
I believe the college has seen an opportunity to get more money from my current employer.
On the other hand considering the service I have received from the college I should be invoicing them for wasting my time as I could have completed in 3 years if I didn’t have to wait for them to find an assessor who would come on site to carry out the observations required and this only happened after I made a formal complaint.
I am 34 years old and can’t waste my time anymore chasing assessors to get an update on my progress, so I was wondering if someone could tell me what certificates I should receive after completion of the science part of the apprenticeship.
All exams passed and only waiting for portfolio feedback from the IQA, but this has beed going on for about 6 months and I’m looking for alternatives.
I have electrical qualification compared to level 3 NVQ from abroad but to be competitive I want to achieve a UK gained qualification.
Thanks.
