A Socket-outlet on a wall or similar structure shall be mounted at a height above the floor or any working surface to minimise the risk of mechanical damage to the socket or to an associated plug and its flexible cable normally might be caused during insertion, use or withdrawal of the plug.

This the second time in a number of weeks I have had issues with height of sockets, First one the guy backed down and paid after speaking to Gateshead building control. However this one is adamant that it does not comply.. Anyway the sockets are just above the skirting.. Like sitting on top.. I have checked every possible plug i have and they all comply with the above as the socket sits proud of the skirting..

The guy has had the cert and has been issued with a cert showing no deviations from bs7671..... Now this is where it gets messy. Guy is adamant that I am needed to return and raise his sockets.. But trying to explain its not per the Electrical reg so not covered under the cert even if it was new builds..

Im thinking part M. and not included in part p right??

the 450mm rule applies only to new build and major renovations. he's taking the pee.

tell him to provide you with the proof, and say if he is right youll raise them, if your right he pays you and you stick your warranty up his nose. after all, you already know your in the right, so what can you loose

As part of a rewire they can be left where they were, but mustn't be any lower than they were. Normally good to sort this with a customer before starting though, as some do indeed want them raising.

He says its Part P and the electrical regs. Ill speak to him Tommorro and ask for proof of what exactly doesn't comply and failing that please issue payment

maybe he's under arrest for stuffing a customer into his own CU.

How did you get on, Dave?

I went down to chat with the him at the property with the original quote and the regs. after a long chat and a call to his local building control he admitted defeat.. Go the job of raising them to the level which wasn't a bad days graft.

The guy may not have had much room for wriggling out of it
He either has his sockets raised and paid the price, or he has his lapels raised and still paid the price

Very True. Im glad in this case that most had play on the cable in order to lift as per his request.. Adding an additional socket saved me a little time too and I said id do that free od charge... Im nice like that you see..
