bought a 5ft strip light from homebase and stoped working after a month, have checked and cables are all intact and voltage is present at fitting, someone told me the ballast inside can cause this , can they be fixed or replaced or does the fitting need bined?? any info will help thanks

Do 2 wires from each end of the lamp go into the ballast? If so, it's electronic.

If there are only 2 connections to the ballast, it is magnetic, and there may be an electronic starter built in to one of the end caps if you can't see a conventional one.

Check the lamp electrodes for open circuit - you should get around 2.5 to 5 Ohms resistance.

What is the make/model of the ballast?

You could try taking it back. Likely it is one that is a unique type to them anyway, so they'd probably change it. There may be a date code on the fitting which is likely within a year so that may help.
Otherwise, buy a new one and take the old one back in the new box with receipt.... :)

well having a ballast, wouldnt it be electronic, can they be fixed ??? no starter

;ust because it has a ballast does not make it electronic. A wire wound ballast and a electronic ballast are different. If your light has no starter then it sounds like it is electronic. You can replace this ballast but might cost the price of the light.

Dont need a receipt just proof of purchase which can be bank statement showing payment to them.

AFAIK you can get replacement parts for most fittings.
Is there a product code of any type, worth goggling that.
