I’m wondering how this abomination didn’t go bang or start a fire. Inside there are cables for 2 lighting circuits on separate phases all spidered of a 5 core cable.

Were there wire nuts on the ends of those bare twisted cores , of were they literally just twisted and shoved in the box...?

change box for a metal one. that will prevent the spread of fire.

No wire nuts on them when I opened it today. I’m just glad it was isolated when I took the lid off.

They all look pretty well connected to me.

Check the inside of the lid for the wire nuts.
If nothing was touching, and not severely loaded, it would be fine

That’s outrageous, NO TAPE TO HOLD THE “joint” together.
