I have been priced ÂŁ31,000 excluding ground works for 40 sharp nu245 panels with 2 sma 5000 tl invertors as I don't have 3 phase, would I be better going for german panels or are sharp good panels,I am also a bit concerned as to the way they are proposing to hold down panels with weights, should groundings not be concrete.

10kwp ground array should be fixed by ground screws/anchors or concrete base/sleepers
get them to check wind & snow loadings to ensure enough weight/ballast is used

It depends on what ground mounting system they have quoted for.

The Console system is ballast weighted, gravel, slabs inside the console with a single panel mounted in landscape on top. Search console on here and you will find my posts on them.

Framed mounting systems will require "fixing" in place. Concrete pads and bolts or ground anchors driven into the ground by pneumatic drivers.

As for the Sharp panel they must be one of the UK's most popular panel currently. May be something down to the wattage. We do install Sharp and have no issues or problems with them. They compare well to the majority of mid range panels and if you hold off for the newer 245 it will have a positive power tolerance.

The planning application for the ground mount system should demonstrate what and how it is proposed to secure the array. Wind sheer calculations should also be included in this (if required).

Thanks guys for advice, the only thing they quote for mounting system is flat fix (click fit) module frames, they have forwarded pics of previous job which show's them mounting panels with 3x2 slabs ready to go on,i could forward to anyone interested to give their opinion, just a bit nervous and want to make sure it's done properly.

@rob1002, The flat-fix system using paving slabs as ballast should be fine, the wind calcs for overturning and uplift still need to be done though, - the aberdeen coast is probably a bit windier than rural berkshire!

flatfix is a ballast system for flat roofs 15/25/30 degree inclination not ground mounted & ÂŁ31000 you have been quoted is also very expensive for this system
can,t quote prices as this is a open forum - send me a pm or check your inbox
flatfix could be mounted on slabs on the ground depending on site conditions
