I have been asked to 'gently' light the 2 faces of an outside clock that will look very similar to this picture:

[ElectriciansForums.net] A bit stumped on how to light this clock tower?

The 2 faces to the clock will be 180 degrees, i.e front and back.

They would like it to switch on at night by itself so it will need a photocell somewhere.

The most important thing is for it not to be too brightly illuminated, it just needs to 'gently' light up the clock face. I have already asked why not buy one that has a light built in and the answer is 'too expensive'.

My only thought at present is a 'stick on' IP65 striplight stuck just underneath on a slightly jutting out piece of wood below the clock faces?

Any other clever suggestions?

Sorry for not replying to anyone, it's all a bit busy at the moment.

Many thanks to all the reply's. I think the choice is between the strip lights and some small directional beam. I think I am favouring the small spotlight with a narrow (low wattage) beam.

I doubt I shall post a picture Hellmooth, but I may if It looks absolutely stunning! :smile5:

Well, don't leave it until it does :)

You should light it from multiple angles, otherwise you'll get significant shadows from the hands causing it to be difficult to read.
At least two narrow spots from the corners of the roof should be a good start, with a bit of diffusion/frost.

What it needs,is a remote,laser generator,sited level,but a distance away,centered on the hands pivot. This could be on a photocell or timer,linked to Greenwich,auto BST adjusted,so at night,it would always be spot-on.

...Now then...the illuminated version,don't look so dear,now,does it?...:blush5:
