You always drill from in to out.
rare i do that.

1. burst brick on outside difficult to repair.

2. finding a course is easier drilling from outside.

3. only drill from inside if i can't measure position. then i run a 10mm through first to mark, then bigger drill from outside.
 
I found his advice regarding being aware of socket and switch wiring on the other side of a wall before drilling through to be very useful indeed and is something that I'll keep in mind in the future.:)

Last time I did that ended up with 4meters of cable coiled up in the downstairs bathroom through tiles imported from Italy. (nightmare) lol
 
if the mortar is very hars, you can use plugs for the nail clips. drill 4.5mm SDS, 1" deep, push in plug. nail.

Aye .... these plugs are excellent for hard mortar ..... remember to space them a hammer's length apart though. :D
