Easy Day, just replace 2 existing light fittings with 2 new chandeliers. First one no prob. S/L, N, E, on choc block ready. fitted, switch on, light. next one. 4 way block, connect up, switch on, Bang goes 3036 in CU ( 4 way wylex). drop cone on fitting, check. no bad conns, no bare copper, no trapped cable. rewire fuse, switch on, Bang again. beginning to doubt my own abilities now. rewire fuse again. disconnect fitting. check not mixed up S/L and N. S/L was sleeved in red, meter out and confirm switch wire is switch wire, switch on, OK. 1 hour later discover that when lamps are screwed in, shorts out L/N contacts in base. Customer trip back to High Street Retailer for replacement. Return and fit replacement, OK. By the way, he says, the kitchen light and the central heating are not working now. Open up first fitting, ( next room to kitchen), pull down the loop line ( 3 ) which were pushed up above ceiling, just taped up, not even twisted. i know, should have spotted it earlier. block off and tape over. kitchen light and central heating now working. central heating FCU fed off lighting although socket adjacent. DOH. Then onto Fire Alarm gone into " FIRE". regular customer, Pub. Meter across zone 1 legs, 680ohm. classic call point . first one i came to, broken glass. new glass, ÂŁ40 + pint Old Peculier. job done. said it could only get better!
