a few questions......

B

BOROROBBO

hello all. i have a few questions which i am hoping i could get some help with.

first of all i am employed at the moment doing 39 hours through the week but would like to earn some extra cash on a weekend.

to do this work i guess all i would need is my part p as i dont HAVE to be registered with NIC or ELECSA etc to do my work?

another question is where would i aquire blank test sheets for this work. i have heard that the NIC do a green test sheet for people who aren't registered.... is this true and could anyone guide me to it?

the third thing is although i am doing work by myself im not self employed as stated above i am in full time employment so how would i give the tax man his dues from what i earn?

any help with these questions would be greatly appreciated as always and i hope they are not "stupid" questions.

Thanks again

Andrew :)

You will get supplied test Cerys once you pass the schemes assessment. You don't have to be with a scheme but you should as you can then sign off your own work. Btw it's not just the niceic and elecsa there is napit aswell. Napit are a great scheme to be a member off!

Ideally, you get a separate bank account and keep records of all expenditure and income to do with your weekend work.

You will submit basic accounts at the end of your financial year and also have to declare net profit etc on a self assessment basis.

You can use any certificate you like as long as you are not using a scheme providers certificate that is only for registered members (NICEIC work on a colours basis).

You don't have to register but for £400 or whatever, it soon becomes worth it!

so can i get this right. NICEIC, NAPIT and ELECSA are all "schemes"?

if i was to save myself the money and not register with them (i know im being picky now) where would i get test sheets from and who counter signs them?

thanks :)

You can photocopy model forms from BS7671:2008 if you like or even make your own.

You as the competent person sign the certificates/reports.

elecsa's your best bet as its the cheapest and does the same thing as the rest, and HSBC do free business banking or about 2 years, keep the costs down especially for weekend work. are you planing to go self employed?

ahhh i didnt realise. beauty, thats my questions answered :)

apart from one anyway...... any idea where to get the NICEIC non registered test certs from? im sure they look a bit more professional than a photocopied sheet im sure. probably have to ring up for them at a guess?

thanks again

Hi guys. Im in the same boat as bororobbo. Looking to make some extra money and looking into going self employed for weekend and evening work but keep the day job. currently i send my results to nic registered mate who countersigns certs. Am i wasting my time here? Can i simply get some kewtech test certs and use these? I was under the impression certs had to be nic or napit etc???

Help would be appreciated on most cost effective way etc of bringing in some extra money. Thanks

The real and most accurate certification is the model forms constructed, dreamed up by, and published by the IET
Any other certificates, whether Napit Eca Niceic or Mrs Jones are just forms based on the IET model forms

so are you saying i can certify my own work without the need for joing a part p scheme like napit or elecsa? I can simply do the job and complete an IET published form instead?? Im waisting my moeny sending them to a nic eic friend to counter sign.
