With the Change in CU in the new year, any suggestions what to do with the old ones that dont sell or ones that have been taken off over the past years.

Was thinking a Letter box just for JUNK mail, so Real mail in the flap and Junk mail in the Ex-CU

TBH I think we should continue fitting plastic CU's as the muppets at the IET haven't got a clue AND the companies making CU's are still making crxp parts inside metal housings.

time to stick 2 fingers up!

Metal CU aren't going to stop cowboys still fitting them and not making sure the terminals are tight enough by using a torque setting screw driver and doing a proper job, still going to get issues no matter what. Should make it compulsory to fit a smoke or heat detector above the CU so if a fire does start it alerts the tenants.

The thing with torque settings, you cannot just blindly follow what it says e.g. 2Nm as if you do it on one board the screws are sharper and can snap through the conductors, and others it's just right so it's a case of using common sense and experience in conjunction with the guidance of the manufacturers data.

Talk settings.......coz, in general, all they are a load of bull spouted by dipsticks. If you don't know when a terminal is 'tight' you shouldn't have a driver in your hand.

The trouble is manufacturers will give a maximum torque for the terminals, but people who can't cope with having to think for themselves will read it as being the required torque.
Once you get to a fastening where all of the variables are known then the manufacturers will give a specific torque for that fastening. If you look at the various connections in a panel board for things like the incomers or busbar connections you get a specific torque. Though it is often the standard torque for that size bolt so you may as well use the two finger rule.
