I had a cold callout today that i should share as you all will at sometime come across but even with all the info things can go in strange directions.
bit long but worth a read.

Was called out by a new client enquiring about having a new consumer unit today, on arriving i looked at his existing board which was 16th design but only the shower and garage sockets on the protected side, all lighting and other power only has overcurrent protection. Earthing and bonding all up to date so was thinking , Why the call ? as i know its not fully correct but seen alot worse, so asks the obvious question why ''he'' thinks it needs changing.

He said its because the fuse clicks off and wont stay on for one of the lighting circuits. So know its changed to a possible lighting fault that needs addressing first off, now this is a bungalow in well to do area about £800k's worth and only four rooms affected on a 6amp mcb but wont stay in and giving a fast hard rupture so said i would come back later and sort it out as it cant be much and should be an easy fix.
Great bit of fault finding for the boy to find while i drinks me earl grey tea chatting i thought, with some posh biscuits.
Turn up and three of the rooms have slidelock roses and the kitchen has a 20yr old florry so know where my money is at this point.

Lets have some guesses what you would have done or any ideas what you may find on this.
