Hi, I'm looking for some advise on a design that i have in my head. I want to do is make a box with 2 110v sockets on the front and a lead to provide power. Now the thing I need help with is that I want to plug in a Hoover into one and a saw into the other BUT I want the Hoover socket to only be powered up once I start to draw power from the other by using the saw, once I stop using the saw I want the power to be cut to the Hoover socket. Any help would be much appiciated

I think the above is just an additional power socket, mounted on the vacuum, for other appliances.

The other device, although operating in the manner required,is going to limit the size of "switching" equipment, below what a decent saw would be.

As mentioned, vacuum machines are available, with this facility built in,but any designing of a stand alone device, would have to take into account, the variety of appliances, likely to be connected,in relation to power, inrush, etc.

I have built these before, for mobile fume and dust extraction, using current sensing switched relays and timers, for post-extraction,but it never dawned on me as a Dragons' Den idea...

If you're not fussed about your warranty you could open up the saw and use the switch to pull in a contractor that's mounted in a enclosure with a socket grafted onto it.

Just mount the 'box' on your saw stand and plug the vac into that.

I was having the same thoughts only last week.

It's not as technical as current sending relays and a run on timer but it's simplistic and easy.
