Hi all, got to spec a consumer unit (Main switch, all RCBO circuits) for a number of flats we are designing, normally I'd spec Hager/Crabtree or at a push Schneider, But apparently these will be to costly with the client, so I was looking for some cheaper alternative, I notice that ABB rcbos seem cheaper than the rest, but don't want to spec their stuff if it's rubbish to install.
Has anyone ever used ABB stuff and was it any good?
Also what about Hamilton stuff?

Thanks in advance.

You shouldn't have any trouble with ABB units, they have been in the game for many years now and have had there products badged by others for a long time also. All I would say is buy from reputable sources as there are counterfiet copies around (same with other makes as well mind).

Sparks123 - On a personal level I always prefer all RCBO's as it reduces nuisance tripping and the such, but on this occasion it has been specified to us by the main client, possibly to do with a LBC rule, but I'm not to sure.

Thanks for the input, I've seen a few ABB products used on industrial installations, but never on domestic. Will check the SBS stuff out as well.

ABB will be pricey.

yes but i think in domestic installation its not necessary..if you do installation on a perfect way i think you newer have any nuisance tripping..i my opinion its just waste of money..

its different story if its on the specification..

I have seen the ABB rcbo's somewhere cheaper than the Hager ones, Not my much, Just a couple of quid, But I cant for the life of me remember where. Definitely not ebay though. What are these SBS boards? I'm unfamiliar with them?
Although I think the contractor has agreed to the hager units, and will cost save on Fans and External lights...
