Just recently completed L2 2330, part p, 17th and PAT testing at able skills in dartford. Quite good except for the lack of materials when doing practical and the books overpriced (much cheaper from amazon). Teacher Mark was good. I'm going back for L3 so can't be bad. Hoping to get some work while not in training (2 weeks on, 2 weeks off).

And if you fail an exam, they will give you another crack at it free of charge. I did fail PAT testing but only cos I clicked on continue instead of resume. Continue means exit the exam and I hadn't answered all of the questions (bad wording for the buttons), but thats down to C and G,s set up, not able skills

I am starting there in Jan I am doing the full package, I really don't know what to expect or even if I am going to be throwing my money away.

What books did you buy?.

Did my training at Ableskills start of this year when you register you get a list of books required for the course. Found everyone friendly and helpful. Tutors all have many years experience of doing the job.

Have had occasion to ring them for a bit of help and always got it so their aftercare is brilliant as well.

PS You can visit at anytime without an appointment and the will show you around sp you know what you are spending your money on.

Hi all,

any new feedback on Ableskills? last post was back in 09! been thinking about going for this for some time now got some basic previous experience and used to do data cabling back in my IT days. started looking at OLCI but the pushy sell and 6K didn't sit right, glad I found this website before I made that jump!

Able Skills are better than OLCI; I've done at the moment 2330 Level 2, on the way Level 3 with them and I with hopeI would like to pass 17th edition and Part P.. with them.
They are good, help you with all questions you might have, and I can assure you will have questions. Myself I have good knowledge on electrical theory and I still asked them..

Able skills look the most professional of all the private courses i have looked at they were the ones i was going to go with but as i live up north it would be a fair way to travel each week so i ended up at a more local provider
ABLE skills are only 1 of a few who do the full range of elecy quals just wish they had a centre up north

I would definitely consider Ableskills rather than OLCI-no pushy sales sharks for a start!
Before parting with any monies I would certainly visit any training centres that your seriously considering signing up-better to pay out some petrol money/time before you part with a few grand in training fees only to find out the course is utter pants!!

I used PASS training in Stockton on Tees for my 17th and part p, they were very good IMHO. They also have a sales and calibration centre for test equipment etc., very reasonable prices there as well.

Very interested to hear more about this place as I'm considering going there myself in the coming months. Looking at doing the Domestic Electrical Installer Package.

Cheers. :)

i used Ableskills to do my initial EAL & Part P Training.. Brilliant Tutors and well worth the money.. i can even recommend their own Accomodation which was clean, tidy and a bargain at £20 per night! (2009 prices). only reason i didn't continue my 17th there was it was the same price at my local college and it saved being a away for a few days or long travelling times.

Definately worth a visit though, they are very welcoming!

Currently doing 2330 level 2 with ABLE on a 2 weekend on - 2 off basis. They were the only company who were able to offer this flexibility. As I work Monday-Friday this is the only type of training I could attend. The instructors are all seasoned professionals with oodles of experience. There are plenty of materials to practice on, which is just as well as I’ve needed them. One of the guys stays overnight on the Sat and is happy with the price (£20 I think) and the standard of accommodation. Everyone has passed the first 2 exams with relative ease so that speaks for its self. Most have already signed up for level 3.
Course books supplied. Don’t purchase any extra literature as it’s overpriced. Amazon is way cheaper. Apart from that I would recommend them as a training provider.

I just finished taking my Part P class and passed with flying colors, the teachers are great and will work with you to make sure that u pass. I looked at a couple of places in the south including OLCI and I agree they are pushing too hard to go to their school. I have also taken the Domistic package and have scheduled my 3 C&G classes for May. This place is a top notch place as training centers go and recommend this to anyone. And i had 2 guys staying in the accommodation and they said it was neat and tidy
