Just recently completed L2 2330, part p, 17th and PAT testing at able skills in dartford. Quite good except for the lack of materials when doing practical and the books overpriced (much cheaper from amazon). Teacher Mark was good. I'm going back for L3 so can't be bad. Hoping to get some work while not in training (2 weeks on, 2 weeks off).

And if you fail an exam, they will give you another crack at it free of charge. I did fail PAT testing but only cos I clicked on continue instead of resume. Continue means exit the exam and I hadn't answered all of the questions (bad wording for the buttons), but thats down to C and G,s set up, not able skills

I'm considering using Able Skills as I'm only 20 miles away in Chelmsford. Very glad to have found this thread and the good reviews.

I would recommend them, I did my level 2 there 2weekends on 2 weekends off and found it was fine. The tutor was Russ Windsor who was really knowledgeable. Its alot of money though and from where i was an hours commute on a good day.

Again, like many people on here i found OLCI really pushy and like dealing with a sales team not a training provider.

Hello. I looked into Able Skills but chose to go with OLCI because they had a lot more centres and one just around the corner from me, so no overnight accommodation needed!!! I found it straight forward and easy, they weren’t pushy with me.

able skills is good, I just did 17th edition there, the spark tutors know what they're on about. I'm not for all these getting the main qualification (level 3) quick, but for improvers working in the industry its a good way to get the shorter courses out the way, they wanted £400 for the 17th, which is cheaper than the ECA. Done it in 3 days. was excellent. Going to get the AM2 done there too because it was cheaper and more convenient than the college i done my level 3 at, they arn't bound by term times.

So, for someone who is totally new to this, and wanting to use a provider like Able Skills, and should have time and money, ( i have yet to contact them), what would be the best courses for me, to get me to a standard ( of course id need experience) where i can go it alone in your honest opinions?

Very true words spoken.

I kind of wish I had gone done the central heating route and gas safe, everyone knows about gas safe or what was corgi, and they also know the hourly rate is around £80/hour.

Is there a 5 day heating gas safe course, like the DI route, I could be earning 90K a year!

Currently doing 2330 level 2 with ABLE on a 2 weekend on - 2 off basis. They were the only company who were able to offer this flexibility. As I work Monday-Friday this is the only type of training I could attend. The instructors are all seasoned professionals with oodles of experience. There are plenty of materials to practice on, which is just as well as I’ve needed them. One of the guys stays overnight on the Sat and is happy with the price (£20 I think) and the standard of accommodation. Everyone has passed the first 2 exams with relative ease so that speaks for its self. Most have already signed up for level 3.
Course books supplied. Don’t purchase any extra literature as it’s overpriced. Amazon is way cheaper. Apart from that I would recommend them as a training provider.

Hi found this thread on a Google search as looking into doing this very course on the 2 weekends on 2 weekends off option. As someone who has done this were you able to successfully make it into the trade.? I only ask as I'm currently working in insurance and apart from being a very practical person and experience round the house I have no over experience, would I be wasting my money?
