I have just completed an EICR! Its taken a while to write up!

I have to emphasise that I am not recommending the chap change his crabtree CU and wylex fuse box, I am offering it as a suggestion and have made it clear that it is not dangerous. However, I am changing the bottom RCD anyway (poor trip times) and also the upper RCD enclosure (poor IP) and also the fuse box is difficult to work on due to the proximity to the meter so it may be a good idea.

I would like to give him an idea of how much it would cost to change it all to a 15 way CU and dont want to over/under quote. I usually charge around ÂŁ300 for a CU change but there is a lot more going on here and was thinking around ÂŁ500. Is that about right or a way off?

With all due respect....yet another question on pricing, but this time no one has abused the op on his question...??....down to the real world...do you have a price structure, on what you charge for what you supply and install, or are we working on the smoke packet quotation again. You need to sort out your costing per equipment, labour, cabling and containment.... otherwise you will continue to be guessing on every job you do.

The big difference with this question to the ones that get flack is HHD said a price in the OP, not what would you charge?

No one in their right mind is going to reveal their price structure to a relative stranger.

Agree with Tony, at least HHD actually mentioned a price and showed some pictures for information, he attempted to help us as much as he could so he could get help back, thats why he didn't get a kicking.

With all due respect returned, but it looks as though you think that getting 'abused' may have been the right course. Not sure about the choice of words or the idea?

I wouldn't say I was 'guessing on every job I do', just asking about this one as it's a larger CU change than I am used to so just getting a few thoughts from the experienced guys on this great forum (which I think I am now a bit addicted to:smiley2:). I think if you plotted my threads about 'quoting' on a graph it would certainly be tailing off and in total would be 5 threads out of 136 started.

I gave up smoking 21 years ago so generally use a sandwich packet instead.

I don't actually mind explaining my pricing:

I charge ÂŁ30 for first hour and then ÂŁ25p/hr after or day rate of ÂŁ180.
I add on about 10-20% for materials.
(I feel that ÂŁ25 an hour is enough so I class that as including overheads.)
If I feel I have been slower than a more experienced electrician (quite often) I take off some hours.
I charge ÂŁ10 p/hr for mates and cost price for materials.
I charge nothing for my mum, sister, gran or best mate.

So you have a pricing structure, and tbh a very reasonable one...think its time to get this on a spread sheet, weather a self calculating file like excel or just a word file listing your cable equipment and labour.....this we help to quote easier without forgetting items you may need. Nobody can remember everything, and if its written down, you can go through it as you quote.

Thanks for the advice Tazz.

I think if I start getting larger jobs (e.g re-wires/new builds) then I would certainly look into some kind of computer programme as even now I spend far too long organising a quote and that is just for smaller jobs.

That's because he's a nice lad, goes the right way about asking a question and the next round in the pub is on him. ;)
