Instead of using the standard rotary isolator for the inverter, is it acceptable to use a standard 100A switch within the consumer unit? It's DP, can be locked off, and will obviously be clearly labeled :) Anything wrong with this method?
 
can't see a problem.
 
For some reason most isolators are the rotary type, but I'm not sure quite why they became the dominant choice as any other type of switch that meets the requierments for an isolator (contact clearance, etc) and can be padlocked off should be fine.

Isolator needs to be adjacent to the machine it is controlling.
