I thought they were supposed to do that or am I being thick - again?

No, it shouldnt sound when the mains power is disconnected.
I'm not sure this is an option either on Accentas, but I've only installed 2 of these, so am not an expert on them.
If the main battery is good,(and it isnt programmed to sound when no power) then it will be the smaller battery in the bell box that is at fault.

meter across + and A on the bell terminals in panel.. should have 13.6V. drop mains and see if that voltage drops off. if it does, then it's battery or a panel fault.

What you need to prove is if there is 12VDC across the hold off + & - when the power is cut. As I think you are already aware the panel battery continues to "hold off" bell if mains is disconnected. Just meter it at panel (D & A), disconnect mains and meter the contacts.

If you have recently replaced battery suggest checking F1 fuse.....if old battery has gone dry, it will have taken the fuse.

Then if all fuse are ok, there souldnt be an issue, all power is off the lm317 reg, supplying battery and bell/speak, via fuse the are no other components in the circuit.

If it is holding bell off with mains (via transformer) then bell box is ok and therefore wiring between panel and bell box must be ok too. It's gotta be panel battery then.

Thanks Guys for all your input,
Not convinced that his system has the facility to opt for bell to sound if mains fails ? ( Not that I understand why you wuold want this ?)

Definately have power to battery and battery is maintaining voltage ??

No the Accenta, does not have this facility..is the panel still operational when power is switched off...?...have you done the checks other members has suggested...?

Are you sure its not anything to do with a Tamper. (Know little about intruders) such as soon as the bell outside has no feed it thinks its being tampered with inside so sets off to alert others.
