Evening everybody. I've been asked to quote for a re-newal of all accessories (sockets, switches, batten holders, ect) in a privately owned house. What do I need to do regarding changing sockets and switches in "special locations" i.e. bathroom and kitchen. DB is old WYLEX re-wireable with 5A and 30A re-wireable fuses. Thanks in advance.

is it a like for like exchange, ie a battenholder for a battenholder fitting?
is the current light in bathroom the correct one?
what is the bonding like?
are they class 1 or 2 fittings?
is an earth present in light ccts, switch drops?
Perhaps PIR the installation first to see what u are working with beforehand!

Bonding's ok. CPC's in the 3 / 4 switches and and lights I looked at. In bathroom and kitchen she wants existing fittings removed and replaced with new downlights (IP66 for bathroom. IP20 for kitchen.) Class 2 equip at the mo. Downlights would be C1 I think - metal bezel. As I say they have CPC's so ok in that respect. More wondering about notifing LABC, RCD protection in bathroom / kitchen, ect.

To fit D/Ls in bathroom you are extending/modifying circuit.

Therefore RCD protection required and notifiable work.

Best bet is to persuade her of the cost saving and fit a nice bathroom fitting instead.

Ok if u are not registered, and u are replacing like for like than u would be ok, but if u are extending any ccts or modifying u will need a minor works cert, inform LABC, RCD etc

You will need rcd protection for the proposed lights in bathroom...............As the board is an old wylex 3036 type, u could get round this by running the bathroom light cct through a RCD FCU (placed in the airing cupboard possibly so its accessible) labelled correctly with the correct fuse etc. Test bonding to check that it is less than 0.05 ohms or less As per GN3.
To be honest the kitchen light cct is no longer a special location so would not worry about this too much.............Ask yourself is the job worth it to u really if ur not registered etc? I.e what ur gonna make for the hassle etc?
Why the sudden change for all accessories in the house? is it just a cosmetic thing?

Thanks for the advice. Cosmetic change. Client having plastering done, carpets up, wooden floor put down, ect. Says she's just split up with her boyfriend / husband so wants a change?!

As long as u do it right eh!.................remember it only takes one job to ruin ur reputation, so really think about whether it is worth it for u to do it? If u are possibly thinking of working on ur own as i take it u don't, then get it right from the off or steer clear until u are sure u are ready?!
This is only advice so dont take any offence as i dont know ur background, experience etc?
