In my garage I have a light and 2 switches operating the light (one switch at the front & one switch at the back of the garage)

I have a 2 core cable (red cable) going from the mains to one switch
I have a 2 core cable (red cable) going from the mains a junction box (the j-box in for the light next to it)
I have a 2 core cable (red cable) going from the j-box to the other switch.

In total I have 3 (2core) cables (all in red)
I also have a grey cable running between the 2 switches ( I asume this is for the 2 way lighting)

I now want to add an outdoor light to the circuit.

I wired the outdoor light and then took the cable to the j-box (the j-box with the 2 red cables).

When I turned the mains back on the outside light worked ok but I had to turn the garage light on to make the outdoor light come on & vice versa with turning it off. If I wanted to add a seperate switch for the outdoor light, where would I join the circuit?

Thanks

find the permanent live, then take this to your new switch common. form L! take switch live to outside light. take neutral either to switch and block to neutral to outside light, or neutral direct to outside light. sounds like you are feeding your new light switch with a switched live instead of a permanent

There are 4 terminals in the j-box but 3 are been used.

1 from the j-box to the light fitting
1 from the j-box (2core) to one switch
1 from the j-box (2core) to the mains

pay a spark to do it maybe sounds like you are well put of your depth here , no offence it just makes sense to use a proffessional

As long as the existing wiring is approved for outdoor use and everything is working as planned then there is no need to replace the wiring.
