I am having trouble programming an Optimal Compact alarm panel. I am only using programme 1 and have set all the zones unused in programmes 2 and 3. I am only using 2 zones in programme 1 and have set all other zones unused. I have set programme 1, zone 1, to timed. The problem is that when I set the entry time to 30 seconds the system still goes into alarm immediately the entry PIR is activated. Everything else seems okay. Any ideas?

I have set programme 1, zone 1, as a timed zone and then set entry time 30 seconds and exit time 30 seconds. This is all the options the manual gives me on entry /exit The exit time works fine, allowing me to go in and out of zone 1 for the 30 seconds but the entry time does not work. The system goes into alarm immediately the PIR is activated.

Zone 1 is automatically configured as an exit entry or in other words a time delay zone is is set for access route or in other words it holds off only if zone 1 is activated first as for unused zones they fall into 2 sections an actual zone or an spare zone. For spare zones I always link them out so no need to programm them out. Remember when you set the part route you have to prog the zone that you will trigger first ie a hall pir that was an access zone as an exit entry

I let the exit timer time out before I try re-entering. I set all the unwanted zones to unused in the programme. (every thing in all zones except programme 1 zones 1 and 2) The manual does not give me the option of setting an entry/exit zone, only a timed zone and then the two separate settings for entry time and exit time on the chosen timed zone, which in my case is Programme 1 Zone 1. Am I missing something

You need to select option 6 on the P1,2,3 mode and change it from disabled to timed if you dont then you cannot enter the code and then select P then 2 or 3 the panel comes from the factory preset with part programs 2&3 disabled

Hi Oldtimer

Done that, set 6 to time.

I have rechecked my wiring with a circuit tester and both programme 1, zones 1 and 2 (the only ones I am using) are separate and each function correctly when walk testing using a circuit tester. When walk testing using the walk test function on the panel both led's come on when walk testing either one of the zones. If I walk test zone 1 the zone 1 led comes on and then 2 seconds later the zone 2 light comes on and vice versa.

PSI have just set both P1 Z1 and Z2 to timed and now they both have a working entry time. It seems that I cannot get an entry time on one zone only Have I got a panel fault, i.e. does the panel confuse or combine zone 1 and zone 2 when I don't set an entry time on Z2 which needs has no entry time on it.?

it sounds as if you may have a panel fault. to find out, make sure you are not triggering zone 2 at the same time as zone 1. are the 2 pir's on the same cable. i.e.a pair for each, or separate cables. ? try removing the zone 2 alarm pair from the panel and link out the terminals, then try it.

Johnny I have been doing alarms for 27 years and although they can be seen as black magic to some people you can logically sort out any problems but and a big but be advised you have to have a method when installing . So where do I start well I am putting in a LCD mini Accenta tomorrow morning (removeing an C&K 700L) but I need to prepare so I am using 4 zones of an 8 zone panel and before I set foot on the job I prepare the panel ie I fit links in all the zones and make sure the tamper links and extrenal sounder tamper link is in I then make a 600mm lead and connect the RKP in I then sit down and program the panel and fill in my service and commissioning sheets I also test the panel for setting unsetting ect why because when I started there was a 1 in 10 chance the panel was faulty (1 in 3 if it was a Thorn 7002) plus I have saved myself a pile of time when I get on the job once the panel ,rkp and battery are connected then the rest of the job is as they say a scoooosh then I test and connect each zone separatley and once I am happy the system is good to go I then connect and test the outside sounder. So how come people get in such a state with alarms easy they go in and get themselves all tied up so if you want to do more alarms you need to get a panel set it up in your house connect 500mm leads to each zone and get programing then you can put the panel and your programing through their paces.
One last thing the Optima panel you worked on has been around for the past 30 years except now it has more program options but basically it is the same panel they made 30 years ago

1 in 10, oldtimer. you were lucky. in 1981 we were using KJBentley panels. it was a 1 in 10 chance you got one that worked. the company i worked for nearly went bust due to having 5 grands worth of panels away for repair.

Ahhhhhhh Im getting all sentimental and my eyes are welling up yep I used to buy my equipment from KJ Bentley and used their panels a couple of times ie F130 F133 and the Symphony the last 2 if I remember were the first NVM chipped panels althogh I used the A&G Micro three delux then moved on to the Optima and Optima 2+ the forerunners to the optima.accenta range today.

O aye those were the days

Forgot to add 25 years ago I used to fit an ultra bright LED on the front of the bellbox and thought thats pretty neat now there is dancing LEDs on boxes Funny old world

Hi All

I finally got through to speak to the technical dept. of the panel supplier (they only normally speak to trade) and they told me there was an anomally in the programming. They told me to physically link all unused zones and set them 'used' - and it worked! Everything is fine now.

Thank you all for your support. What a frustrating business.

Regards

Johnnyd I always link out all zones in the panel used or not that way I can test it and at the same time when it comes to connecting the zones in I remove the link yes I know you can program them out but I feel it is good practice to link out unused zones
