Im young Electrician looking to the future. I was looking to go abroad for work and was wondering if its hard to obtain work in USA under our qualifications or is there course i need to take over there.

Just a poke in the woods if anyone on here been over there before or knows the run of the mill

Thanks

Any help appreciated

Thats what i thought. Looked around a bit and you need State approval restriciting you to one area!

Just thinking it might be nice getting up in mornings not being freezing cold! All a dream lol

I may be wrong but I think EVERYTHING in the USA is different - voltages, phases, wiring, regs, everything. It's a completely different kettle of bacon.

Canada is a nice place......been looking into it myself (Alberta).

The Red Seal exam is key out there, but once you have that you're sorted for all of Canada unlike the US where you need a licence for each state.

Cheers for the help reckon your probably right. Might do a spot of travelling and im going America so can look while im there. Always seeing adverts for Canada or Australia.

Need to look around move. Everyone seems to go australia but i know you need a course/exam update there aswell

Im moving to Canada in May so im pretty clued up about the North American stuff as ive been studying it for a year now,
However, you did say you want to avoid being cold in the morning so maybe its not for you!!

If anyones considering USA or Canada then buy the American Electricians Handbook off Amazon.
Its about 5 inches thick and tells you EVERYTHING.

Also, throw away your testers, chisels or fancy sds drills. learn to bend metal conduit with a hockey stick and buy a padsaw.

Here it is

1953 American Electricians' Handbook - Testing for voltage! - CEG Forums

Electricians often test circuits for the presence of voltage by touching the conductors with the fingers. This method is safe where the voltage does not exceed 250 and is often very convenient for locating a blown-out fuse or for ascertaining whether or not a circuit is alive

Classic ok it is from 1953 but I'm sure it's that basis of the underpinning knowledge of the 5 day wonder course.

Only in America! :p

Ha ha that's great.
I've got the fifteenth edition, printed in 2009
I think they've improved a bit. Not much but that quote isn't in there anymore.

Still absolutely no problem what so ever with having your sockets and lights on the same circuit tho.
