You might find the college option more in depth. If I read that right 3 hours a week for 30 weeks, the college course(s) I am on is 2 full days each week from September to June minus term holidays. Also at college you will need to pay for the Level 2 course, as I put it was £1500 for me, which is being paid of in bits on a monthly basis. The Level 3 I am on at the minute is being funded by an Adult Learning Loan for £3,000ish quid.
Depending on what route you go, you don't "need" the NVQ and AM2. I know plenty of time served domestic electricians who have neither.

I am thinking the college option could be the better option. I am going to email them and see what the costs are based on what I have been given from In Phase.

I have emailed the colleges so I am waiting to get back. I may see if its possible to get some work experience with an electrician. As training on the job would be great.

Yes The code of practice for ISITEE In Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment, what used to be called PA Testing, you get one supplied when you book the open book exam, now there is an oxymoron.

I'm 41 and am looking to change career and get fully qualified..

I looked into and had 2 interviews with someone from Train4jobs and have since decided not to go ahead as what was initially part of the third year to complete some onsite experience turned into we "might be able to help with that" which would like me having forked out £7k and left high and dry..

So I have booked a PAT Testing course its 3 days and 8 hours. I am excited to say the least.

Just been to a college opening evening. They said I can do a Level 2 no indications of costs as of yet. But it’s 36 weeks in total, few practical assessments and also online exams.

Now I know In Phase do one which is 30 weeks and the online exams. Do you think if the costs are the same shall I do the In Phase or wait until September to do the college course?

To give you an idea on prices my local college wanted £2.5k per course for Lvl 2 then Lvl 3 over 2 years.

Instead I'm on an EAL Lvl 2 @ £1900 for 1 year and will start Lvl 3 around September next year.

The way I see it is that you're investing in yourself.
@43 I'm funding my own career change while currently still in work so I can provide for my family if I lose my current job (which could happen at any time in my job).

So I’ve spoken to someone at the Job Centre and they basically have said they can’t fund the Level 2 course. It’s an EAL course if that makes a difference it’s £1400.

Now I was just thinking could I maybe use my degree, it’s in Computer Science and maybe study something in Uni or something? I know what the trades like as I’ve helped my uncle on a few jobs in Domestic, Commercial and even Industrial.

Any advice please?
