Discuss advice on fuse for a sunbed in the home pls ? in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

You may of had a Sun Bed before Amanda, but that one had a 13A plug top on it. ...It certainly wasn't a commercial 9.6KW/42A monster you have now. I think it's going to cost you a little more than a pound a go this time... Power wise, your now into the realms of instantaneous shower heaters....lol!!

it was indeed a commercail monster ! run off a 32 amp fuse but I sold it last year as i needed the room .
eeekkk I have one of those shower heaters too !!! lol

If you round it off to the nearest Kw say 10 Kw and multiply that by the unit cost of electricity you pay then that will give you how much it will cost per hour , personally i would use a sub board for it 63amp RCD 45amp mcb , 10mm cable 45 amp switch as you would a shower obviousley as has been said it depends on the installation methods used also ensure your spark gives you a certificate and notifies as well as this is a notifiable job

As we have given you some info on this , please please please do not attempt to carry out this work yourself , or the friend who knows a bit about electricity , you are looking at seriouse currents here 42 amps and 50ma will kill you ,this must be installed by a professional regestered electrician
Amanda im not having a go there are just to many people getting killed recently

thanks for your concern , will see the electrician when he comes off his hols . hope hes in a good mood and goes easy on the price !!! lol

amanda. apologies for my facetious answer yesterday. was just in 1 of those moods.

Have installed a couple of those monsters, and all I would say is follow the manufacturers instructions. You will probably find it needs a 'C Curve' MCB and possibly a time delay RCD due to the start up current and raised earth leakage at this point.

Most of these only run for 3 mins at a time, but beware of running for extended periods of time as it wil warm up your supply cupboard (e.g. girlie tanning [frying] nights).

Personally I would split the incomming supply and fit a dedicated CU for the sunbed, your own sparky will advise, definately not a DIY option on this.

there wont be any girlie tanning nights its for my use only !! lol , how do these tanning shops go on that have 8 beds running at once !!! nightmare ! :p

amanda. apologies for my facetious answer yesterday. was just in 1 of those moods.

you were right tho tell'..id ban the things, wifes mother died of skin cancer, slow painful death, ended up about 3 stone, but she was tanned:(...nothing wrong in being pale its the way we are..:)

Yes but in final destination im sure she used sunflower oil instead of sun block

think you may well have found out amanda we have very odd sence of humors here , oh thats me

shame on you RJW lol

yeah ;) u guys still rock though !!!

so any ideas on the cost ? and would it include materials or do i need to buy them myself

Thats the 'how long is a piece of string' question. It all depends on where you are, cost of kit, cost of any remedial work that might be needed on the existing system (earthing etc) and the route the cables will have to take, and how neat you want the finished job. Only the sparky visiting and quoting will be able to give you an answer. However you will be able to ask the right questions based on the info you have in this thread....

Oh and always let your sparky buy the bits. He/she will be happier knowing they bought the kit they like to work with, plus they will know its up to standard and not flea-bay replicas.

Happy tanning..........
