hi,

Just wanted some opinions on to whether people think this is as ridiculous as I do?
A fella I used to work with on the same firm a bit back wanted some work doing for a bloke he had been wiring some flats in for. He tells me it’s a consumer unit upgrade and an test and inspection of the property. As a favour I said £300. Bearing in mind it is a 2 hour drive also. He gave me the blokes number, he was expecting my call. After speaking to the bloke this was not the case!
He was under the impression he was getting:

Board change
EICR
2 PIR security lights
IP rated outside light
Bathroom fan
IP bathroom light
3 sockets
2 pendant fittings

He said the fella I knew would do this for 250 and 300 was more than enough!
Am I mad or is insane? Bearing I mind would have to travel 2 hours each way. He wanted it competed in a day also?.
Surely people cannot be doing this work for that amount in a day.
Safe to say I declined the work, much to the fella I used to work withs dissapointment.

You were right to decline it you'd be selling yourself as a slave labourer doubt you'd make a penny

Yeah,
I said to the bloke on the phone he was getting a good price for the board change, and test. As it was a bit of a favour and I had some boards already in my van etc, I said I would do it for 300. The fella I used to work with was going to issue him with a cert after I had completed the EICR. Bit annoyed really. It’s like he was trying to get me there to work for nothing, knowing what was involved. Don’t mind doing favours, but, that was extracting the urine! What would you say the ball park figure would be for a job like this. I have been working in the cards for years, so, haven’t really priced jobs up. For all that I was thinking the 800/900 mark??

Cheers

good To know. I may be going back to being self employed. But, not if that’s the going rate that people are expecting! I will just stick to the site work.
