Hi Guys

Im new to the forum, came on here to find out some answers from experienced sparks.

Ok im not working right now, i have Part P and 17th Edition, a Mate wants me to help him on a job doing voluntary experience, he has 16th but not Part P or 17th, I got a feeling he might want me to sign off the completed work, which is a hotel at a seaside installing fire alarms, smokes/heat/sounders/emergency lighting.

Im not registered, do i have to contact building control? or is it all down to him as i planned on just helping a mate out and gain some more experience.

Just want to do things right and not have any come backs!

Thanks in Advance

If I were you I'd be upfront about it to your mate. Ask him what he wants from you. When I was training we were always told that you needed to have the 2391 to sign off commercial and industrial work. I guess that is not the case.

Thanks for the extra replies, yes i have spoken with him now and he did not expect me to sign the job off but to show me the certificates used.

yes i have 9 months on the job experience and i think for what i know now i have learnt quite quickly but it is a hard road to become an electrician, i have not had an apprenticeship :( tried but could not get one, so i went the route of part p and 17th and still want to qualify as much as i can 2391! etc

i know alot of you time served sparkys hate the fact of part p but its out there and people will pay to do these courses and some will be cowboys! and some will have high standards and skills like me, what was i expected to do, waste my skills and have a supermarket job all my life! just because people in the industry does not agree with the way that ive had to go.

I enjoy the work i do and learnt alot so far and can do alot especially domestically, but still from time to time find myself in the dark, not with the skills and the actual job, but all the "what you can and cant do around the job"

so thank you to all.
