You men down south have a very different system than up here in Scotland, but the amount off young and old on this forum that have went to college for two years and can't get a company to work for to finish their time is shocking.
The latest thing the large companies was wanting apprentices to be duel skilled, but that s no use to most smaller companies who are electricial contractors only.
With the breakaway from the JIB happening it could mean you have to have two different cards a JIB one and whatever these companies decide.
This breakaway will also have an impact on apprenticeships as companies will ony be looking for installers and not looking for sparks.
The times are hard for approved sparks with all the tickets like me and it must look worse for younger ones looking for a way into a trade that is in the position of being taken apart t the seems.
It is a case of the smaller companies will be quick to follow the larger companies if they are going to save on their labour costs.
