Advice to go self employed now ive complete my AM2S

Completed my AM2s start of this year.

My whole career plan is to run my own company/sole trader. Be my own boss basically.

I always get asked when I will be able to sign stuff off. So, I believe this is when I get a company setup and become a member of the competence persons scheme, is this correct is this hard/long time consuming to do. Can this be done while still being employed by another company? ultimately this is my goal and I want to be able to go do a consumer unit change/install a new circuit and be able to test my work and fill out the certificate and be compliant/within law.

I also have a friend of mine who wants a 3phase sockets installed in his workshop. Currently am I able to go install these sockets, test and fill out certificate as it’s an industrial unit doesn’t conform with Part P? So, i don’t need to be registered with a competence persons scheme? Just need to be qualified like I am now.

All I’m after is a bit of advice and confirmation that I have the correct understanding.
unfortunately, I cannot have these conversations with my fellow colleges/boss as I would most other questions, I have… Don’t think he would be too impressed with the idea of my going leaving the company.

Any advice or input would be the most help full!

If you have a partner who can help out it will be a massive advantage!

Just to echo some of the above comments, I'm in a similar position to yourself, though have my c&g 2391 along with a couple of other quals I felt would benefit me, but weren't entirely necessary (2396, EV charger). I am also wanting to do PV and battery courses going forward.

I am currently awaiting a NAPIT assessment date, after which I will (hopefully!) be good to go. I don't know your circumstances, but the biggest thing for me as a homeowner is building up a large enough base of work/savings to make the switch and be able to continue to pay ever increasing bills. It's certainly already proving to be hard work, I've started to look at and plan jobs, pre-emting my CPS enrollment. Quoting is certainly time consuming, and even that I'm doing to a limited degree currently as all work I'm looking at is family and friends. I'm not willing to take on other work until CPS is sorted. Down the line finding time to do the work, while working full time is looking to be a challenge. The cost of running it are also already mounting, van, insurance for van, insurance for business, CPS costs, buying tools I don't currently have that are going to become essential/time saving.

Having been self employed before working through CIS as a subby etc. I already know even that was a pain sorting HMRC paperwork etc.

If you can start planning and accumulating these things now while still employed it may be helpful, as well as picking up a few smaller jobs once you're CPS registered. Rather than just diving in at the nearest opportunity.

Just to add another confusing thought....I have my 2391 Verification & Testing, NVQ Experienced Worker but haven't completed AM2E yet...I'm employed as an electrician but I assume I can actually do private work (non notifiable domestic or industrial/commercial) already....

It's all way way way too complicated.
