Hi all. I haven't worked as a sparky for about 1.5 years, as I've been out of work, due to having various operations on my legs. I got made redundant from my one and only sparky job, 4 days before my first leg operation. (Nice!!) Now my legs are ok, I'm having real trouble finding someone to take me on as an apprentice, because I'm too old. (I've just turned 30). I've only got 7 months working experience, but I've worked on a good variety of jobs, including lots of domestic work, rewiring an old church, various factory jobs etc. I've got my 16th edition, and my C&G 2377 PAT testing certificates, but without a job, I can't afford to get any more qualifications. I was going to do the 17th edition update course before I got made redundant, but my boss kept putting it off, probably because he knew he was going to get rid of me soon. I really don't know what to do, as I keep getting knockback after knockback. If anyone out there can give me some advice, it would be much appreciated. Being a sparky is all I've ever wanted to do.

Where are you based ?
The one positive thing to being unemployed is you can get most up to 100% of you training paid for.So register with the local colleges and get your 17th update and then do a 2330 course.Your young mate only 30 ,I'm 42 and just started on this route so you can count that as a plus. Also maybe depending on where you are, but a mate of mine was told there was loads of PAT work as he cosidered doing the exam.He was based in Reading. But don't get employed until you have sorted your courses out as you need to provide proof of your unemployment status to the college.Job seekers allowance claim letters and all that.
Good luck
