Hello all,

Just wondering how you all go about making all RCBO boards look neat, tidy and professional when the extra neutral and functional earth flying leads are thrown in to the mix.

My plan is to run 100x50mm (still prefer to say 4x2) trunking along the bottom of the board with 25/32mm brass bushes through the knockouts and in to the trunking. Run all incoming cables up behind din rail and dress in to the RCBO. Don't really have a neat and tidy plan for the flying leads so thought I would ask the great and the good for advice/tips......

Thanks & ATB

Chris

Also depends on whether your consumer unit is a taller one designed for rcbos or bog standard designed for mcbs, so left with less room up top. Some also have the earth bar in the middle which can make it bit crowded. Thats my only gripe with the hager one.
I fitted one a customer got from denmans recently as she works as admin for them, so nice and cheap. surprisingly it was a doddle to install as its designed with rcbos in mind.

Use their compact RCBO's.

Depends on budget, Its a struggle enough to get the customers to pay for Hager as it is, they pick up the diy store book and see a cheap board for £60 and think that will do. I do like the new Hager ones though, very useful if fitting into existing board aswell

The board I am using is Niglon (I can hear the sharp intake of breath from here) the wholesaler we use through work had been knocking them out for 2 years and has had no bad reports so thought I would try it. First impressions are good, plenty of space up top for the Rcbo's and it feels like s solid unit.

All the knockouts are on 25mm centres from the back of the board so I reckon I will be ok with the trunking and 32mm bushes.

Will ferrule all the flying leads, my work is industrial maintenance and we use ferrules on everything.

Thanks for the advice so far.

I just installed a Hager Design 10. Not sure if I'll fit another. None of the fixings were keyhole ones, making it a bit of a nightmare when installing as a replacement, with existing cables in place. Main thing was the cost, haven't worked out my final price, but it was a fare bit more expensive than others.

Hagers compact RCBO's come without earth lead, but might give Wylex a bash next, with their new compact RCBO (as someone posted about recently), no earth lead & switched neutral.

I’m trying to ‘murdochise’ my way of installing advising RCBO boards.
I’ve taken to cutting and ferruling neutrals and earths and it looks neat. Someone on here had put a picture up of putting the CPC and the functional earth in the same hole on the earth bar and find that when all positioned on the same side of the CPC looks very smart! All I need to do now is start using 2mm earth sleeve instead of 3mm (shout out to Westward10!)

Cheers for all the input so far.

Had another look at the board this morning and have decided to take Leesparkykent's advice and have bought 75x75mm trunking instead, that should make fitting bushes and locknuts much easier.

I also bought a tail gland when I picked the board but I am now thinking of not using that in favour of bring the tails on through the trunking and one of the 32mm bushes knockouts on the bottom of the board. I think that will look better and save me drilling a 40mm hole in the top of the board.
