Anyone know when ally was used domestically I think it's it's 2nd WW era so around 40's-50's is it ?
Definitely ally as well not tinned etc

Cheers

Sheath, although concrete/plaster of some sort had been around it at some point so may have been to do with that!

That's got nothing to do with the metal used for the conductor, that's a problem with the sheath material.
What colour was the sheath? It's normally the old TRS twin which does that (needs rewiring if it's on that condition)
The conductors look silver coloured because they are tinned copper.
I've not seen ally twin with a cracked sheath as it was PVC sheathed, but then I've only seen a few bits of it in use.

Imperial T&E of any kind appears to be much bigger than the metric equivalents anyway due to stranded conductors and thicker insulation

Great stuff loads of that in my apprentice bullying kit [emoji23]

...And always put a teaspoon of sand,in your Vaseline....it makes a good time grate! (here all week...)

The majority of my involvement, with ally cable, bar some industrial, was as a kid, stripping ruddy miles and miles of HV,which was ally round a steel core...a job that cries out for safety goggles...

Also, the black stuff that forms around the outer surface, which the pylon lads called "atmosphere",sticks to yer hands, and stained all my school books, for a week :stooge_curly:

Apart from the 3 strand conductor smaller lighting cable with no cpc which can look tiny.
