hi all

just had word from my employer that myself and colleagues need to buy a copy of the amended regs out of our own pocket. surely this is a business related expense, and be reimbursed if they want us to have it, they say its part of our tool kit.
if anyones had similar requests or knows a bit about the law in these cases please give us some advice.

thanks

Hi Chris check whats written i n your contract of employment to see if it lists as what is classed as personal tool kit, some are crafty and word it very openly, otherwise if there is no reference to this i would throw it back at them, this could turn out a bit of a grey area i think lol

cheers for the reply
checked my contract recently regards to another issue and theres no mention of tool kits or training.
i'll probably end up paying for it reluctantly, they can afford decent lawyers.
thanks again

JIB List the regs as part of tool kit its very unusual for employers to pay for it umless its apprentices

Hi Mogga , i must of been lucky, company i used to work for supplied all regs and guides as it wasn't in our contracts, maybe things are getting a lot tighter, i know JIB list it but my old company supplied them to make sure everyone had up to date regs

Do you know if your company will foot the bill when the next edition comes out and you need to sit that? If they do then I would be inclined to swallow the cost of the Green regs book that is due out ;)

thinking about it your employers wants to employ an 'up to date' electrician, so why wouldn't they expect yourselves to keep up to date to what you claim to be capable of.
They are supposed to support apprentices training and so that is more understandable.

At the moment it's an employers market and I would be inclined to not rock the boat TOO much as I am sure they are well aware that there are MANY sparks just waiting to get into such positions. :thumbsup

This employer may have a point as far as the Reg's are concerned, but if this employer is so keen to be upto date in all areas, then i would expect that they would keep a reference library of all the current guides associated with the Reg's, plus any other current material relating to the businesses area of work, such as H&S, other relevant BS standards or codes of practice, etc!!

In actual fact the Business should also be in possession, of a copy of the current Reg's too!!!

Ring the tax office mate im sure you can claim it back, I did with mileage driving to get to my works van even tho i was on the books, It was a long time ago but i sure there were other things you could claim for.
