Hi All

I've been living across the pond 20+ years but now I'm back due to personal reasons, I've been working in telecomms with lots of systems powered by stand alone PV, I've not had much luck getting similar work here in UK but I've seen lots going on in the PV industry so I was thinking this might be a good job to go for, so far I've got my 17th and I'm about to sign up for my 2391 and then 2399,2372 or the NICEIC all of this is being paid for by me and I'm wondering if at 54 I'm getting to old to be offered a job ? it seems there are a lot of younger people looking and I might just be regarded as an old fart now, I'm still very active but if I had any hair left it would be grey.

So wondering if I should be spending my money doing this or should I look elsewhere ?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Why not start up yourself?

Yes I thought about that but I need some experience here first I think, things are very different on the other side of the pond and although I was very capable in what I was doing there things in the UK look very "foreign" to me now

What a great year 1956 was eh mate ..........................

There are quite a few good lads on here Mark C (my mate lol) Worcester TedM SRE, all do PV work and I'm sure they will help you.

I would also look at doing the fire alarm and emergency lighting courses as well, as more strings to more bows the merrier, they are relatively cheap compared to many and are just the one day or combined 2.

I can only say to you give the employment a shot. You are not too old to be a spark. Theres thousands of them out there (who in all honesty need to retire and let the new boys on the block have the work:p;):p joke)

I think you will find it hard gaining experience and trying to make a living out of it at the same time. Sparks usually pay buttons to trainees and thats why they get 18 year old apprentices on board instead of adult learners. If your in a financially stable situation to earn buttons then so be it.

Thanks guys I guess I'll give it a go, in the longer term I don't think I'll be staying in the UK for ever, the weather hasn't improved since I left and its not the place I remember from my childhood.
