I just read an snippet in ECA Today saying....

"The ECA is Calling upon the electrical sector to take the lead when advising on installing energy saving technology".

I don't really buy into it myself never mind having to try and blag customers that the price they have to pay to meet part L1A is saving the planet.
I don't think the power station is going to to turn off a turbine for good as a result of me calling everyone an eco terrorist.

I can do the money saving part tho as I'm a right tight sod myself.

How does anyone else here use the Eco-friendly saving to justify the cost?

Well I don't see how digging mercury out of the ground and putting it in people's houses so they can then throw it out with household waste to leak into water sources can be good for the environment, but what do I know?

... Or the alternative which is to drive to the tip. I suppose you have to drive there in an electric car, using the electrity you've saved from using so-called "energy saving" lamps.

Thanks to the EU directive on carbon emissions 350 of my mates and myself lost our jobs. Because this stupid country enforced the rules that countries like Spain and others choose to ignore. Guess where our work went?
Sod the enviroment!

I think it will be a lot easier to sell the idea of energy saving lamps when LED technology improves a little more and the price of them comes down. I agree that with CFL's you're robbing Peter to pay Paul, with the energy savings you make you have a disposal problem.

i agree and dis agree at the same time.
but
"The ECA is Calling upon the electrical sector to take the lead when advising on installing energy saving technology".
that could be pretty much anything.

i agree in a sense that it would work and help the enviroment.
however i disagree on the amount of people it would put out of work.
also for everyone person useing energy saving technology theres probably 100s that arnt
for instance: everyone drove electric cars would help the environment and be cheaper but would make alot of people redundant. however like it is at the moment not alot of people have electric cars so it isnt really having alot of effect.

but there are other things that are energy saving that dont require alot or anything.
advise on turning lights off when leaving rooms etc.
installing capacitors

"Energy saving" lamps are all good and well in Spain, but for most of the year in the UK the heat produced from tungsten filament lamps is useful for, well, heating.
Electric cars might not help protect the environment but they might help prevent wars.

i'm doing my bit as well, staying in bed longer, and eating steak ( we all know that cow's farting is the biggest contribution to greenhouse gases, so i'm eating as many as i can )

What "scams"? PFC?
I'm assuming everyone here was taught about that at college and led to believe that it's a good thing, regardless of whether or not the little plug in units some companies sell actually do anything other than flash a couple of lights at you.
