Hi all,

I just wanted to get advice and opinions on wether its worth me asking for a wage increase. ive been working for a company for the last 14 months on ÂŁ250 a week and before that i was doing fire alarm installations for 6 months and working on new builds for 4 months doing mostly second fixing and street lighting.
The work that i have been doing for the company that i currently work for includes
over 150 fuse board changes ( having to resolve all manner of problems associated with a board change) this involves me being left on site by myself to carry out the work.

I have doing over 200 PIR test (to as best a standard i have been trained to which was intensive for over a year and have done over 150 of these by myself to be signed off)

I have done numerous remedials and partial rewires unaided. but have done only about 20 rewires aided so i would see it as a weak point not to say i couldnt do a rewire by myself i just havent. I also know tht there is so much more to learn in general so it is only one of many weak points.
Most of the work has been domestic but i have done quite a few commercial.
My fault finding is not to bad in terms of taking a logical approach to the situation but as you know things can be a tad more complicated then being logical :)

I currently have 23302/3 and 17th edition and will be doing my 2391 in march (last chance saloon lol)

The wage didnt bother me in the early day as i trade money markets , not making big money but enough to supplement my wage but as time has gone on i feel i may have grounds to ak for a wage rise.

i would appreciate any advice or opinions given many thanks

Cheers!!

Hey guys i appreciate the advice given. I sort of knew in my heart that im mugging myself out. but im not one with a lot of confidence in talk but feel i wouldnt know half of what i know if i want working with this firm as they have trained me very intensely since i have been with them which i do give them credit for. But i think i deserve a bit more than training wages and will put it on them on monday. will be funny to see thier faces. never know they may be positive :)
thanks again guys

If that is 250 after tax then your employer is clearly taking advantage of you. Thats 7.50 on a 40 hour week. Do you have your sparks card? You should be getting at 12 per hour for the work you are carrying out.
And the fact that you are in London, how do you survive on that?

There's a lot of companies around that take on trainees or apprentices then as they get to the stage your at and want to be made up to a sparks face the situation that either their out of a job or stay as they are , but if you are doing the work as you say , with or without 2391 you gotta be worth ÂŁ12 an hour , Try

Mate its got to be worth a try if you been doing all that for ÂŁ7.50 like me in past you are being mugged off they will be getting more than ÂŁ250 for 1 CCU change you could make more working for yourself if you can get the work that is not always easy these days but got to be better than making some FAT CAT rich sat on his back side counting all the money you make him each week deffo should be getting ÂŁ12 a hour minimum
Get a NVQ then yo can get your JIB elecy status

Good luck mate you deffo deserve a rise

cheers brucelee Im on nvq now with xs training which is what is keeping me with the guys i work for as the work is varied enough for me to fulfill the criteria of the the portfolio so feel a bit paronoid about in term of being able to get the work for the nvq if i left just due to there not being a lot about. I suppose i need to have self respect take on board the advice given and put it to them. its a little bit catch 22 but still have to recognise my worth.
Thanks again guys

cheers!!

In my eyes yes. However things are hard at the mo.. If you have a steady job I certainly would but demand things. Ask nicely but make sure to can put a good argument to why you deserve a rise.
