hi guys

any advice or information regarding the am2 would be great. hints and tips welcome.
Cheers lads

hit the SWA and SY first as these take a while, don't forget to bridge the data over the 230v cables, don't be too worried about the heating system as this is just wiring by number but take your time because one mistake will send your head spinning especially when there is a time deadline, use your own tools, snips etc, make sure you know your 10 step safe isolation procedure, Too many people fail on this and pass the rest, installation is pretty straight forward, ensure your glands are tightened properly, ( not teaching you to suck eggs). On the DOL starter make sure you calculate your overload and tell the examiner. On,online exam is pretty straight forward, testing is ok just do as you've been taught, fault finding is simple on the generic circuits but will require more time on the heating systems, let us know how you get on, good luck, Liam .

and take 10 minutes reading through spec. I almost failed because I wired the ring final CPC in 2.5 and not 1.5. Realised and sorted it, could have cost me ÂŁ350 lol

Thanks Liam that's pretty good advice will take it all on board. It's going to be nerves that get me I think. Under pressure I struggle even though its second nature I can't wait though

All of the information required to complete each section is in your candidate pack. You will only see sight of it once you have entered the assessment room. Just one point to mention Inspection, Testing and Certification must be as to GN3/OSG. No Short cuts.

Best of luck and sit and read the specification.

Hi

Can you give any advice on the cable trays or trunking? I know its a potential fail if you don't connect to earth but is there any other trip ups in terms of what wires go where? I have read plenty that says the cat5 must go as far to the side of the tray as possible. What is this about bridging though?

Also...

do you have to test the cat 5 datas cable and if so how?

Above it also mentions testing the central heating. Is this just the standard tests i.e. CRIPPLER?

any help/advice would be really appreciated.

thanks

Hi Hectorhill,

I found a wee link that might be handy or our question about cable testers for cat5 cabling.

Hope this helps mate.

I sat one of the very last old school AM2 assessments so I can't comment on the new syllabus. Personally, nerves played a big part for my assessment. Once I got into the mind set that I was doing an every day job and not a practical exam, I walked it. I found a useful link below which should help you with your query - best of luck:

The New AM2 exam - complete guide to the new AM2 exam

**Edit** Also, use your college tutors and any spare time that you have to go to college for hands on practice.

cheers Drexyn. That link seems to cover it. Shouldn't be anything to worry about in terms of the cat5 (famous last words. I'll put my energies into the s plan system instead
