do I just have 2 pigtails of braid sheathed up with earth sleeving connected to earth in both the starter and the motor?

Any help is appreciated
Thanks

Sorry to hear you failed ... likely under the Exam pressure you missed a step without realising, unfortunately its a strict criteria to passing as its what saves lives on site.

Did you treat it as being live until you had proved it to be dead, were you supposed to use ppe until proven dead?
Were you supposed to do something to prove that the isolator you had locked off was the correct one for your board?

Straight away? Or did you hang on to it until they said they could now take it to keep safe for you.
It's a few years since I did the AM2 but I remember you had to keep hold of the key and not hand it over until they offered to keep hold of it for you.

Did you do the refresher day before you did the AM2

we didnt have any of this on Am2 25yrs ago but in my test we had a nurse call board we had to put jumperd in to make it work .... on doing my jumpers my didnt work they said try again .... I doubled checked was sure it was right so took the back off and found broken solder joint.... called him over and said i expect to pass this with credit since you nearly failed me on faulty equipment..... should have seen the examiners face lol ...tis great when you prove your examiner wrong lol

Here for reference is the safe isolation procedure taken from the new AM2 guide.

Safe Isolation for Dead Working
All LV installations must be isolated and proven dead before work can commence, except in case when dead working is unreasonable. Don`t forget that electricity kills, so it is vital that everyone in the electrical industry adopts safe working practices.

Safe isolation sequence:
• Seek permission from a relevant responsible person to isolate supply.
• Select the correct and mains approved test equipment and ensure it works correctly by testing on the proving unit.
• Identify the point of isolation for the system or circuit. Lock off, place warning label and keep the key to the lock with yourself.
• Test circuit to make sure it is dead.
• Re-test the test equipment on the proving unit.
• Begin work

Testing Single Phase Installation:
Test for voltage between the following:
• Phase and Neutral
• Phase and Earth
• Neutral and Earth

Testing 3 Phase four wire systems:
Test for voltage between the following:
• L1 and L2
• L1 and L3
• L1 and Neutral
• L1 and Earth
• L2 and L3
• L2 and Neutral
• L2 and Earth
• L3 and Neutral
• L3 and Earth
• Neutral and Earth

Remember:
When isolating the main source of energy it is also essential to isolate any secondary sources such as standby generators, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and microgenerators.
