I have been scouring around try to get decent compression glands for the above, so here is a question that some may find an obvious answer to, what is the IP or other rating that is required,? however, most makers quote IP 68 which may well be ok as far as it goes, but do they prevent the spread of fire which is the supposed whole aim of the tin box fiasco, of course we all know its whole heap of utter crap initiated by the manufacturers to sell us more stuff and more expensive stuff at that, which we need to pass on to the home and business owners and will not ever stop one single ballsed up CU change catching fire. so what are you guys using and has any one ever had comments from your annual visit on what you use

Don't need to be fire rated, you just need to maintain the Relivent IP ratings wich would be IP4x for the top & IP2x else where.
my understanding was that the AMD3 CU is not fire rated it's just not meant to melt and leave live cables hanging out during a fire.

I know Murdoch but they are plastic the very stuff we are told is bad and burns

Hum.... the wiska plastic ones are very popular.

The IDIOTS who write the rules need to return to the coal face and understand the issues facing the average spark.

Problem is that BS 7671 is like the bible - written by many people and FULL of contradictions, ambiguity and sometimes you need to buy additional books for clarity - which many people simply don't do!

Wes does that mean that the old faithfull rubber grommets are still ok ? if why are we being told or at least it is inferred that that only compression glands should be used
P

Well said murdoch as time has progressed and various editions and amendments issued I think its time to get the most recent copy of whats his name ?? the explained and illustrated chappie

I would agree with Wes1000, so long as the IP4X and IP2X are maintained you are good to go.
I think Hager did a demonstration video of a burning CU with plastic trunking and conduit coming out of it and the fire did not spread out of the CU.
Even GN4 only says any openings that remain after installation of cables, etc. must be sealed, but they do not indicate a sealing material, method or requirement about this seal.
Rubber grommets should be fine.
Glands are useful to stop cables moving, but generally they will not move anyway as they are all supported outside the CU.
