Hi,
I'm about to install a new MK sentry Consumer Unit. The only issue I have is what will be the best way for the cable entry into the box.

Thanks for your time
Chris.

Can't see any qualifications in your profile. Entry method, if you pardon my expression, is dependent on any things; is this anew build, replacement etc. What way were you thinking of doing it?

I did that recently shanky with a Wylex CU on top entry, which had a about 5x20mm knockouts and 2x32mm. I used bushes and locknuts. Have to say, there was just enough room for the existing cables. The spacing of the knockouts, prevented enlarging the knockouts. Not very impressed with the design. Might use grommets next time.

You can get more cables through a bush than a grommet.

I don't understand why this has become an issue all of a sudden. Metal boards have been around for a lot longer than plastic so why are so many electricians suddenly struggling to work out how to get cables into them?

Arrgh davespark, nice to see you back to your normal self :). Knowing you are a stickler for the facts, I've just measured the internal diameter of a brass bush & rubber grommet, and they are in fact.....the same. So scotch that idea then. It's not an issue for me, but I think few of the manufacturers haven taken advantage of the regulation change, to give some thought into cable entry (or anything, for that matter). Wylex appear to have a metal pattress available, to facility surface cable entry (sales of plywood are going to dive!), but that's about it.

Personally, I would take a Ze measurement myself rather than rely on someone else's maybe drive by scrap of paper.
