Oooo Sorry Mr & Mrs Grandparents. That brand new CU you had installed in November, got to be ripped out and a new one put in. It's illegal now.
It's not me, it's them new regulations the buggers brought in. If your old electrician wasn't a bloody cowboy he'd have known that the law was changing and put a proper one in.
I'll do it as cheap as I can for you since you were ripped off. £500 and I'm cutting me own throat at that.
Yeah I'll do it this afternoon no bother.

I can see it now.

You've been watching too many episodes of 'Crime Watch' for your own good;

Should of listened to Nick Ross. ''Don't have nightmares, do sleep well'' :smilewinkgrin:

I know what you mean mate and realise you were joking but sadly I've come across similar situations too many times. The last one was an old couple who had gotten someone to install some new lights. The clown in question looked at their old Wylex board and told them that they needed to rewire urgently citing old technology, the cabling behind the board being the same age and that it will have degraded to the point of being a fire risk and quoting illegality. He even gave them an on the spot quote.
Luckily they had the sense to get a second opinion, half a day's testing concluded there was nothing wrong with the existing wiring and a new CU was installed.

back to topic. rebus training (stoke) are doing a 1/2 day workshop on the 3rd amendment £50 + VAT, if anyone's interested.

They definitely aren’t like that, I’ve worked with Geordie pit fitters for the last 30 years.

It's not a case of I’d put my life in their hands. I have done, far more times I care to remember.

That's a very nice thing for you to say, sadly we have very little industry left up here to foster the kind of camaraderie up here that used to be, or I suppose anywhere. It was a pleasure going to work ,and it is sad to see it has gone.
